Get involved

Theatre is fun!

Progress Theatre offers a variety of ways to get involved, whether it be on stage, backstage or off-stage - everyone involved in productions or staffing the theatre is a volunteer, giving up their time and donating their passion; all to help Reading's oldest producing theatre.

To become a member and help us directly, why not read more about joining us. We are a sociable bunch and you can make Progress your theatre too.

If full membership is not for you, Friends of Progress enjoy some unique benefits.

Budding playwright? If you'd like to see your writing performed on stage, WriteFest is a great opportunity, with entries opening in the spring of each year. In 2019, seven short plays were selected for performance in September 2019. Or, you can submit a short play to Scratch Reading, and see it rehearsed in an afternoon and performed the same evening. Want to meet other aspiring writers for mutual support, advice and workshops? Then Reading Playwrights is just the group for you.

For amateur artists, many of our show posters are open to competition.
