Audition: Little Gem

Audition Notice – Little Gem by Elaine Murphy

Directed by Steph Dewar

Audition dates are Thursday 11th January at 7:30pm and Sunday 14th January at 2pm.
Show dates are 16th-21st April 2018.

Love, sex, birth, death and salsa classes. Three generations of women, one extraordinary year.

Amber has bad indigestion and the sambucas aren’t getting rid of it. Lorraine attacks a customer and her boss wants her to see a psychiatrist. Kay’s got an itch ‘down there’ and is struggling to deal with her husbands illness.

This award winning play delivers an honest, touching, hilarious and yet emotional rollercoaster, as we follow the lives of three generations of women from one family, through a series of monologues.

Roles Available:

  • Amber – 18-25. Amber is something of a troubled teen – recently out of school and working in a call centre. A lively lass with a fondness for Sambuca and the odd bit of cocaine, Amber's devotion to her troublesome boyfriend is not necessarily reciprocated…
  • Lorraine – Late 30s -50s. Amber's mum, Lorraine is a wee bit fragile – she has suffered from depression and mild OCD since she was abandoned by her immoral, abusive junkie husband – Amber's father.
  • Kay – 60s – 80s. Lorraine's mother, and Amber's grandmother. Kay is a strong woman, utterly devoted to her husband Gem, who had a stroke, and she is struggling to accept the change in their relationship.

The ages of all women are variable. All parts do require an Irish accent – a workshop is available on sat 2nd December at 2pm for anyone wanting to have a go or brush up their skills!
